Recent advancements to cloud technologies are changing the game for Comm SPs. Combining the best of traditional telco solutions with these new cloud architecture-based technologies and strategies has resulted in the promising Telco Cloud ecosystem, enhancing competitiveness, driving cost savings, and creating new service and revenue opportunities that Comm SPs can realize today.
Telco Cloud takes advantage of the unique distributed nature of telco data centers and networks, allowing ecosystem players to capitalize on improvements in performance, reliability, security, and manageability with the appropriate mix of technologies from both telco and cloud. Telco Cloud technologies support and enable a wide range of services from the edge of the network to the core.
An interesting example of this is Orange’s Libon service, which is based on standard cloud infrastructure and provides Orange with its own OTT value-added service. Orange has continually evolved the features and functionality of Libon in now-familiar “cloud scale” development cadence and extended beyond its own traditional market presence and over alternative connectivity models such as Wi-Fi).
A key technology underpinning much of the Telco Cloud and business transformation outlined in Intel’s podcast series is Network Function Virtualization (NFV). NFV enables the deployment and management of vital functions, processes and capabilities quickly across a broad spectrum of open standard hardware components. Without NFV, Telco Cloud’s agility, flexibility, scalability and reliability would be sorely diminished.
Telco Cloud leverages the best of telco and cloud technologies to accelerate Network (and business) Transformation.
