With advances in virtualization, SDN, cloud and AI, network domains (ND) are more autonomous relying less on OSS/BSS systems. The telecom industry requires a rethink in its ND to management architecture if it's to achieve agility, cost controls and time to market expectations.

The lack of a standards-based testing framework has hindered the planning, procurement and deployment of virtualized networks and functions. Intel launched the Network Services Benchmarking (NSB) program to address this issue by developing a common framework for Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI) and Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) characterization. The NSB framework, which has been added to the OPNFV Yardstick project, will help facilitate deterministic and repeatable benchmarking. This allows running applications in a performance-optimized, secure, and cost-effective manner—spanning the data center to the central office and to the network edge. Cloud-scale agility, scalability, and rapid deployment of network services are critical considerations, guiding CoSPs as they deploy this next-generation infrastructure.

Network transformation stages, VNF re-architecting, industry readiness. Progress and enablement, challenges and recommendations

This presentation will discuss recent research on current service assurance systems and how they relate to the industry’s most widely discussed technology topics today – Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning. We also introduce the concept of Small Data – using active testing and monitoring to provide direct answers to the relevant service quality questions and as the prerequisite high quality data inputs for effective Big Data and Machine Learning processes.

Deployed on the network edge, uCPE platforms has to be very cost efficient, but at the same time provide key security functions to protect the network edge and the services provided by VNFs on the uCPE. Clavister can provide a Secure SD-WAN solution that combines secure WAN connectivity and strong network security functions in a single resource efficient VNF.

This session will provide a high-level view of 5G and discuss target services for 5G networks. The concept of network slicing will also be covered and how it can be used in 5G networks. Network slicing is the use of NFV and SDN to create a virtualized network that meets a set of requirements. Slicing can be described as separating the network into different domains, enabling distinct management of different parts of the network that are used for different services.
