- Industrial facilities, urban areas, and emergency operations require accurate and reliable geolocation data for many use cases.
- Conventional Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) can only provide geolocation with multimeter errors in open sky conditions and good satellite visibility.
- Albora Technologies s provides reliable high-accuracy geolocation data via the edge platform.
Industrial facilities and urban areas have increased their demands for geolocation services, like geofencing, in terms of both accuracy and reliability. There is also an increased interest regarding the use of trackers for personnel safety in case of emergency operations. Nevertheless, conventional GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) can only provide multi-meter errors in optimal conditions like open sky zones with good satellite visibility. Other more difficult areas are further degraded due to the lack of visibility of satellites, radio interference, weather conditions, etc.
Albora solves the issue by combining asset data with reference information from base stations, improving the accuracy and reliability of GNSS positioning by removing disrupting effects from the satellite measurements, and allowing an accuracy reaching up to the centimetre level.
Albora is also relying on Intel® Smart Edge is a Kubernetes-based, edge computing platform for deploying edge networks and delivering multi-access edge computing (MEC) for applications, containers, and virtual machines. It’s wrapped in a user-friendly platform designed to give nontechnical users the keys to their own edge computing platform.
The augmentation algorithms are off-loaded to an external computing platform, reducing the complexity of the asset hardware. Best in class infrastructure has been provided by the 3rd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors, which power security, high-performance computing, and more – all while improving cost efficiency and reducing power consumption.
In particular, the use of edge platforms provides the required computation power while reducing latency, making it especially adequate for real-time applications. In some cases, a hybrid approach between cloud and edge proves useful, combining a fast response from the edge, while allowing global data processing on the cloud for analytics purposes.
The deployment of Albora's solution on the edge also takes security into account. On the one hand, customer data has to be kept protected, preventing tampering, even if the edge cluster is deployed in an accessible location such as a public cabinet in a smart city; on the other hand, Albora is also interested in protecting the algorithms so that the system cannot be attacked.
For these reasons, Albora is leveraging Intel technologies to protect the execution of critical components on edge platforms
About Albora:
Albora provides a high-accuracy scalable solution by enhancing any low- to mid- GNSS chip whereby the HW communicates certain information to our platform, an outside software layer which can sit in the cloud, edge or on-site server, and in turn provides the user with real-time reliable up to cm-level high accuracy geolocation for asset tracking and management.
