Over the past twelve months, we focused on accelerating network transformation deployments and momentum across the communication industry. At the SDN NFV World Congress, Layer123 recognized the Intel® Network Builders program as the Best Ecosystem Program. This honor was particularly special because we gathered the ecosystem at the congress to celebrate our joint successes across a range of technologies and initiatives. We announced Intel ® Select Solutions for NFVI, Intel® Select Solutions Fast Track Kit for NFVI with Red Hat* Enterprise Linux* and ecosystem support to identify, verify and deliver optimal server hardware configurations and open source software stacks for NFV workloads.
Then at MWC, we highlighted additional network functions virtualization infrastructure (NFVI) momentum and the opportunity to apply this experience with core network transformation to next generation central offices (NGCO) and, more broadly, the network edge.
Our vibrant ecosystem includes over 300 members including equipment manufacturers, system integrators (SIs), independent software vendors (ISVs), communications service providers (CoSPs) and enterprise customers. The community thrives thanks to a robust ecosystem program that fosters close collaboration between partners, nurtures innovation and accelerates delivery of proof points and commercially available solutions.
As the Intel Network Builders ecosystem gathers again at the NFV & Zero Touch World Congress in San Jose, April 24-26, we are celebrating collective successes and rallying this incredible ecosystem around a new Network Edge Ecosystem program.
Why Such a Focus at the Network Edge?
Along with the maturation of network functions virtualization (NFV), the advent and convergence of 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of things (IoT), and cloud ready/cloud native solutions are opening the door to new opportunities for CoSPs like never before. We firmly believe that the Network Edge is where a lot of these opportunities will mature.
New network edge use cases are emerging across multiple vertical domains, including virtual and augmented reality, cloud gaming, vehicle assistance, smart cities and factories and many more. These use cases may demand very low latency, efficient and enhanced broadband, local control of multiple data streams, context awareness for applications, local-to-local communication, data and network analytics and compliance with local data sovereignty laws These applications and services can be addressed by an agile, flexible, and highly responsive network edge infrastructure built upon the investments currently underway with NFV and software defined networking (SDN).
We believe CoSPs will require cloud and communications infrastructure capable of hosting and supporting the growing data processing, transmission and storage requirements for network edge deployments. Just as the opportunity is real, there is not any broad consensus for how to develop solutions to address the challenges and opportunities at the network edge.
Intel Network Builders offers an ideal platform for our ecosystem to innovate together and support the industry through transformation of the network edge.
Network Edge Ecosystem: Accelerating Network Edge Collaboration, Market-Ready Solutions
While Intel is known for delivering cutting edge silicon, platform technologies, optimizations, verified and tested solutions, we are also recognized as a trusted advisor to our customers and catalyst for innovation in the industry. We are thankful for this unique position and are cognizant of the responsibility this brings as we work with our Intel Network Builders ecosystem. This is also a key consideration as we consistently endeavor to find new areas of joint opportunity and new ways to foster innovation
We are excited to come together with our ecosystem partners to lead the transformation of the network edge. Through Intel Network Builders, our mission will be to cultivate network edge computing and far-edge/access solutions that deliver real customer value through education, promotion and collaboration. Ecosystem participants can expect to:
- Engage with Intel and network edge ecosystem fellow travelers to foster innovation and drive industry alignment in key areas;
- Improve agility in solution development and testing;
- Accelerate deployment of new use cases with robust edge ecosystem solutions; and
- Partake in technical and business enablement, and solution co-marketing
We are sharing more details on the Network Edge Ecosystem with the broader ecosystem at our Intel Network Builders Summit in in San Jose. I encourage you to visit the Network Edge Ecosystem website, where you will find additional resources, such as a white paper and list of early ecosystem contributors. Learn more about the program and how to get involved.
While we are energized by the initial support, we are just beginning our work together to develop win the network edge. Looking forward to growing the community, announcing significant milestones and celebrating with our incredible partner community in the near future.
