As the calendar turns to February; whole Communications, Media and Entertainment industry starts gearing up for the most popular industry event. Yes, you guessed it right, MWC (Mobile World Congress). Mostly, there is a lot of focus and stardom for emerging technology trends viz. Digital Twin, Metaverse, 6G, AI/ML etc., While we passionately talk about industry evolution and innovation through such technology trends, we cannot afford to ignore the cost of natural resources at which this evolution would take us to the future.
Explosive population growth on our planet has already stretched our natural resources. The most recent pandemic was an eye opener for many that taught us to be habitual to take the minimalist approach to life. Otherwise, we would be pushing our planet to its limits when it comes to natural resources. Erratic climate change stands the testimony. Technology evolution generally calls for more power, CPU, and memory attributing to increased carbon footprint. We believe that sustainability should be bedrock for innovation and not the other way anymore.
Technology has also enabled us to implement innovative solutions that would help us to get to unknowns, as more complex networks are being rollout out. Network Observability is a great savior for us as it predicts and intimates us possible scenarios that would help us a great deal to run highly optimized operations. Tech Mahindra has a network observability solution which provides early insights in the most complex multi-cloud, multi-technology, and multi-vendor environment. To build observability driven sustainability, we are working closely with our leading industry partner, Intel.. This joint industry solution accelerator integrates “Intel Insight” telemetry framework feed to gain detailed understanding of how the network and compute resources are behaving. This behavior in conjunction with other data related to E2E services applications will help us improve the efficiency to operate and manage resources.
Tech Mahindra’s framework for sustainable network observability using Intel telemetry technology
Tech Mahindra’s network observability framework is consuming the insights coming from Intel’s telemetry framework to build a sustainable network. Intel telemetry framework provides details on network insights that are beyond legacy KPIs like memory, CPU, network utilizations. These insights will help us to know not only the resource utilization but also guide the possible way to efficiently use and manage the resources optimally.
Tech Mahindra’s Network observability Framework is a single pane of glass view for network, IT, and applications by collecting the complex data further processing them to curate meaningful and important insight/predictive insights. The integration of Tech Mahindra’s network observability framework along with Intel telemetry framework empowers customer to optimize along with achieving their sustainable targets and enable future growth & predictability.
Tech Mahindra and Intel’s sustainable network observability architecture overview.
Simplified Steps and Operations:
- Data from multiple sources sent to Data Lake, in our PoC we are creating using Elastic.
- Data lake will be consumed by BI/DI tool visualization real time network.
- Data sent to domain level analytics layer for processing and sending trigger for alignment to Orchestrion layer to reduce the turnaround time.
- Data lake consumed by Management layer to understand the E2E impact.
- Data analytics layer send trigger to orchestration layer.
- Orchestration layer trigger as per policy and availability.
Steps 3, 5 and 6 are important when we talk about optimization of resources and related consumptions. As discussed earlier, we must work across both IT and Network, to reduce the carbon footprint and bring the optimization. Start looking from top from a service KPIs point of view and it will help to get deeper and see how we can improve efficiency at server level. Intel’s observability framework can be leveraged to build E2E network observability solutions. Intel contributes and uses open-source telemetry collectors like telegraph to collect infrastructure data.
In summary we need to change mindset of the industry to get KPI’s (Key Performance Indicator) on which business can measure their services for carbon footprint reduction, power consumption etc., We have a technology solution, for it to be industrialized, it calls for an operating model change and a strategic drive from the top leadership.
Conclusion
Tech Mahindra and Intel are collaborating to provide value propositions in the sustainability area under the umbrella of Tech Mahindra netOps.ai platform. Together, we are bringing Communications Media & Entertainment industry specific KPIs, OEM specific KPIs and mapping them with Network of future providing the perfect foundation for optimizing with sustainability.
