Netgate

Netgate® provides secure networking solutions to individuals, businesses, educational institutions, government agencies and service providers around the world. pfSense® software - the world’s leading open-source firewall - is primarily developed by Netgate, with over three million software installs to date. TNSR® software extends the company’s open-source leadership and expertise into high-performance secure networking – capable of delivering extraordinary vRouter performance and value at a fraction of the cost of legacy brand solutions.

Our products address foundational secure networking applications including firewalls, VPNs, and routers – typically deployed at customer network edges located at home, ROBO, corporate headquarters, and data center locations, as well as Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) edges. Deployment can be via turnkey Netgate appliance, bare metal image for third-party appliance, or virtual machine instances.

The company is a longstanding advocate of, contributor to, and participant in, the open-source software movement - registering over 26,000 code commits across secure-networking open-source projects including Clixon, DPDK, FD.io, FreeBSD, FRR, pfSense, strongSwan, and VPP.

Netgate has been in operation since 2004, and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Solutions

Netgate’s firewall, router and VPN solutions rely heavily upon packet processing performance. In turn, packet processing becomes more CPU intensive as packet sizes drop and encryption sophistication increases. pfSense software is designed to take full advantage of underlying processor speed, encryption-specific instruction sets (AES-NI) and acceleration (QAT). TNSR software extracts orders of magnitude greater packet processing performance through its use of Vector Packet Processing (VPP).

Specifically, Netgate leverages Intel processors across its appliance lineup, as well as a broad array of cloud compute instances AWS and Microsoft Azure. Specific appliances instances are listed below:

Netgate 5100 (leverages a Quad Core Intel® Atom™ C3558 2.2 GHz, with AES-NI and Intel QuickAssist acceleration for both TNSR and pfSense software)

Netgate 6100 (leverages an Intel C3558 Quad Core CPU with integrated QuickAssist Technology & AES-NI for pfSense software)

Netgate 7100 1U (leverages a Quad-core Intel® Atom 2.2 GHz CPU with integrated AES-NI and QuickAssist Technology for pfSense software)

Netgate 1537 (leverages a 1.7 GHz, 8-core, 16-thread Intel® Xeon® D-1537 processor with AES-NI for both TNSR and pfSense software)

Netgate 1541 (leverages a 2.1 GHz, 8-core, 16-thread Intel® Xeon® D-1541 processor with AES-NI for both TNSR and pfSense software)
