Netgate’s firewall, router and VPN solutions rely heavily upon packet processing performance. In turn, packet processing becomes more CPU intensive as packet sizes drop and encryption sophistication increases. pfSense software is designed to take full advantage of underlying processor speed, encryption-specific instruction sets (AES-NI) and acceleration (QAT). TNSR software extracts orders of magnitude greater packet processing performance through its use of Vector Packet Processing (VPP).

Specifically, Netgate leverages Intel processors across its appliance lineup, as well as a broad array of cloud compute instances AWS and Microsoft Azure. Specific appliances instances are listed below:

Netgate 5100 (leverages a Quad Core Intel® Atom™ C3558 2.2 GHz, with AES-NI and Intel QuickAssist acceleration for both TNSR and pfSense software)

Netgate 6100 (leverages an Intel C3558 Quad Core CPU with integrated QuickAssist Technology & AES-NI for pfSense software)

Netgate 7100 1U (leverages a Quad-core Intel® Atom 2.2 GHz CPU with integrated AES-NI and QuickAssist Technology for pfSense software)

Netgate 1537 (leverages a 1.7 GHz, 8-core, 16-thread Intel® Xeon® D-1537 processor with AES-NI for both TNSR and pfSense software)
