SERVICES
SDN/NFV has gained momentum in customer deployment for different enterprise and retail customer use case scenarios. Network virtualization is gaining momentum across telco cloud and enterprise cloud deployments. This adoption is fueled by significant pressure to reduce capex/opex costs, and there is a need to reduce time for service provisioning and new service introduction. Virtual Network functions based on Open Source technologies and running on x86 hardware are replacing physical network appliances. Some of the prime candidates for network virtualization are vCPE (Virtualized Customer Premise Equipment), vEPC (Virtualized EPC), Software defined Probe and Network analytics.
Traditional network solutions are based on proprietary hardware appliances that slow down the service providers in rolling out new services due to the high procure-design-integrate-deploy cycle time compounded with additional investment costs, increasing energy costs and shorter hardware shelf life. The industry is betting on Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to find a solution to this age-old problem. Over the past few years, Software Defined Networking (SDN) is gaining prominence which enables applications to have real-time visibility into the network and applications being able to program the network on-demand and thereby helping create programmable network infrastructure based on application need.
As the network service providers adopt new technology there would be co-existence of traditional and SDN/NFV technology for an extended period of time. We believe the transition to a virtualized environment using SDN and NFV will happen in a phased manner. Wipro is focusing on creating solutions to enable a true open ecosystem that allows multi-party innovation and accelerates the technology transition.
Currently Wipro's SDN/NFV solutions comprise of the following:
Most enterprises and telcos are planning to roll out software defined virtualized private clouds based on open source technologies running on a standard x86 hardware. There are significant benefits including capex/opex savings, no vendor lock-in and agility in terms of quick introduction of new services. However, enterprises and telcos are unsure about the production readiness of software defined virtualized private cloud. The key question is whether the software defined virtualized private cloud will give the same level of performance, security, availability and scalability as that of physical appliance based infrastructure. Since the roll-out of software defined virtualized private cloud is a multi-year transformation journey, most enterprises and telcos need a well-defined integration and test strategy, as standards and open source technologies continuously evolve. To minimize the risks involved, VEVATOTM assurance framework provides a phase-wise approach for verification and validation of software defined virtualized infrastructure from concept to production roll-out in a DevOps mode.
Business BenefitsNetwork virtualization is gaining momentum across telecoms and enterprises; both of whom are under significant pressure to reduce capex/opex costs, and there is a need to reduce time for service provisioning and new service introduction. Virtual Network functions based on Open Source technologies and running on x86 hardware are replacing physical network appliances. One of the prime candidates for network virtualization is vCPE (Virtualized Customer Premise Equipment).
Wipro's vCPE solution is a software defined virtualization platform for realizing diverse networking functions such as branch routing and IoT gateway with the click of a button, powered by open source software that is optimized for running on standard x86 hardware.
Use-cases for Wipro's vCPEThe following use-cases can be realized by Wipro's vCPE:
Wipro's vCPE is an end-to-end solution consisting of vCPE software stack that has been pre-integrated on x86 platform (Broadwell, Xeon, Atom).
Network Analytics Solution (NAS)Wipro's Network Analytics Solution (NAS) is an innovative software based probe solution based on SDN/NFV standard and Intel® architecture. It provides an efficient approach for real-time analysis on the quality of experience being perceived in a live network and actionable decisions based on network metrics. In addition, NAS has provision for key performance indicators (KPIs) and reports for network views and other tools for network operation.
NAS (Network Analytics Solution) offers following functionalities:
