Progress in network transformation and 5G deployments requires broad ecosystem collaboration and open standards to lower barriers to entry and to foster innovation. As I visit with our partners, customers and friends in The Hague for the SDN NFV World Congress, I am excited to see continued momentum and a sharpened focus across our ecosystem to deliver real-world, cloud-based, 5G-ready networks. I would like share some of the exciting news and milestones happening at this year’s event.
Ecosystems are Foundational for Architectural Transformations
The Intel Builders programs provide a powerful ecosystem enabling mechanism for Intel. Since launching the Intel Network Builders program five years ago, the ecosystem has grown to over 300 members and over 40 CommSPs. Intel has engaged this ecosystem to help them optimize their solutions using the Intel technology portfolio to deliver commercial solutions focused on overcoming barriers to the cloudification of the communications network.
Last year we announced the Winners’ Circle program to identify ecosystem companies with innovative, optimized solutions for enabling network transformation. This year at our Network Builders event we announced finalists that have demonstrated technical leadership, advanced open source standards and fostered deeper collaboration with end users.
Ecosystem Partners Deliver Intel® Select Solutions for Core, Access and Edge Networks
Intel® Select Solution for NFVI helps communication service providers accelerate NFVI deployments by simplifying evaluation, purchasing and implementation. A number of companies including Advantech*, Lenovo* and Quanta.*have introduced verified NFVI solutions that met or exceeded performance and quality benchmarks. We are excited to see recent announcements from H3C* and Wiwynn* that they have delivered commercially available offerings of Intel Select Solution for NFVI.
This week Nokia* announced the Nokia AirFrame* Intel Select Solution for NFVI. Come see a demo of the new Nokia solution in the Intel booth at SDN NFV World Congress.
Earlier this year we applied the Intel Select Solutions program to the far edge of the network with Intel® Select Solution for uCPE. This reference design and verified configuration for uCPE solutions gives the ecosystem a foundation for innovation to deliver solutions CommSPs can trust to provide a specified level of performance. A number of companies announced commercial availability of verified Intel Select Solution for uCPE at SDN NFV World Congress and in the prior weeks, including Advantech*, KGP/Premier*, Lanner*, Nexcom* and SuperMicro*. We are also showcasing the SuperMicro solution in Intel’s booth this week.
Continued Momentum into 2019
2018 has been an incredible year of growth and innovation for our industry and the world-class ecosystem that passionately supports it. The future for network transformation looks more attainable than ever. We see a growing number of CommSP engagements and expanded availability of Intel Select Solutions for transformation of the core, access and edge networks. We’re also excited about the innovation demonstrated by Winners’ Circle companies and new open source contributions from across the industry. These accomplishments demonstrate considerable progress in preparing our industry for the new opportunities that 5G will generate.
Our mission continues, and more work remains. We have more exciting opportunities planned for next year to further deepen our ecosystem engagements and education across the industry. I encourage you to join us at SDN NFV World Congress in The Hague to learn more.
