The Lightning™ Safety Solution from FogHorn uses artificial intelligence (AI) to turn video cameras into a valuable sensor that can help Safety professionals determine and easily report on employee compliance to personal protective equipment (PPE) use and even help identify hazards within the workplace to help prevent injury.

The AI solution contains pre-trained machine learning models that recognize a wide variety of PPE, including hard hats, high-visibility vests, flame-resistant clothing and safety harnesses. It can also be used to identify a range of potential hazards like slip/trip hazards, dangers from work on scaffolding to risks with moving equipment like overhead objects on cranes.

When an event is detected, like missing PPE or a potential hazard, the solution performs a variety of real-time notifications, including alerts on live dashboards, instant notifications through email or text and automated logging to a central dashboard for compliance reporting and historic analysis.

Prerequisites

This document assumes that Intel SmartEdge-Open (formerly known as OpenNESS) with Minimal Flavor and the FogHorn base platform was installed. For installation of the FogHorn base platform on top of SmartEdge- please see the following documentation:

Usage

Installation

The license and solution file for the FogHorn safety Out of the Box solution can be requested by dropping a mail to learning@foghorn.io. The installation process is as simple as just importing the solution file into the base platform and specifying the camera system which is used to monitor the PPE equipment (basically all cameras with USB or RTSP protocol support can be used as sensors) in the sensor section of the base platform.

Solution Retraining

The safety solution contains an integrated Web-based GUI which allows to retrain the visual detection model to the specific conditions of the environment where the PPE equipment should be monitored (lighting condition, PPE objects, etc.).
