AT&T* Accelerates Network Transformation on the Path to 5G with Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors
Last month, Intel unveiled its new Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors that enable communications service providers to accelerate the transformation of fixed-function, purpose-built networks into flexible, software-defined networks. As part of the launch, John Donovan, chief strategy officer and group president of AT&T* Technology and Operations, appeared with Navin Shenoy, executive vice president and general manager of Intel's Data Center Group, to discuss AT&T's involvement in the Intel Xeon Scalable processor early access program.
Donovan shared that AT&T has seen a 30 percent performance improvement over its current install base since deploying the Intel Xeon Scalable platform in March. AT&T has also seen a 25 percent reduction in the number of servers needed per cluster, with larger data throughput—improving overall total cost of ownership.
Further, Donovan explained AT&T's relationship with Intel lets AT&T build, fine-tune and accelerate time to market. This is helping AT&T achieve its goal of virtualizing 75 percent of its network by 2020; AT&T expects to reach 55 percent by the end of this year. Read this case study to learn more about how in collaboration with Intel, AT&T is fast tracking its move toward an agile, scalable, and programmable next-generation network, embracing cloud as an architecture and business model.

Intel® Network Builders University Releases Four New Courses
The Intel® Network Builders University is releasing four courses this month. Two of the courses are refreshed material and two are new content. There are now 105 total courses available spanning four languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese). Explore the new courses below or check out the full library of available content.
New courses:
OpenDaylight* NetVirt Features and Their Use Cases: In this course, you will learn about the software defined networking (SDN) community within the Linux Foundation* called the OpenDaylight project. You will explore use cases that are part of several features within the OpenDaylight network virtualization project also known as NetVirt. Some of the use cases include transparent virtual local area network (vLAN), port security, virtual private edge (vPE), and quality of service.
Introduction to Software Defined Networking (SDN) Controller and Virtualized Infrastructure Manager (VIM) Integration: This course will provide a short introduction to SDN architecture and related technologies. You will also learn about OpenStack* and OpenDaylight architecture and integration with a short demonstration showcasing the integration.
Refreshed content:
Network Transformation: This is a discussion about network transformation and some of the industry and the first steps needed to take advantage of the transition. The course focuses primarily on the communications infrastructure and is a great place to start if you are new to the university.
Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI) – A World Where the Application Defines the System: Take this course to learn about SDI and understand how applications are no longer confined by the system but helping define the system to ensure we are meeting requirements. Some of the topics covered in this course are intelligent resource orchestration, dynamic resource pooling, telemetry, and some Intel technologies like Intel® Rack Scale Design.
The online portion of the University is available to all Intel Network Builders program members and the public through a simple registration here. Intel Network Builders University is one of three learning centers in Intel® Builders University, which also includes the Intel® Cloud Builders University and Intel® Storage Builders University. Registrants have access to all of the content in the three learning centers and the new courses added each month.
Please take a look and after exploring the offerings, let us know what content you would like to see added to the university.
