Intel® Network Builders University

Intel® Network Builders University added a new Intel® Ethernet program to the university offerings. The first course in this series, Intel® Ethernet 800 Series Key Features, introduces all Intel® Ethernet 800 Series products featuring ADQ requirements, capabilities, and improvements.

A new course on Platform Telemetry has also been added to university this month. This course provides a telemetry overview, introduction to Collected and a review of northbound and southbound plugin deployment.

Closed captioning in multiple languages is now available for a growing number of courses. The online portion of the university is available to Intel® Network Builders program members through a simple registration here and for the public here.

Edge Computing: From Standard to Actual Infrastructure Deployment and Software Development

Edge Computing is widely recognized as a key technology, supporting innovative services for a wide ecosystem of companies, ranging from operators, infrastructure owners, technology leaders, application and content providers, innovators, startups, etc. The aim of this white paper is to provide an overview of standards, industry groups and other initiatives around edge computing, together with some Intel guidelines, to help the reader to better understand the various challenges for a real deployment of Edge Computing. The focus is to mainly address the needs of two stakeholder categories in the MEC ecosystem: infrastructure owners (e.g., operators and cloud providers) and software developers (e.g., applications / content providers, innovators and startups). In fact, both stakeholder categories are key to the success of MEC, and their engagement depends also on the way the various challenges are addressed. This revised version of the white paper provides some updates on the edge computing standards in ETSI and 3GPP, also with respect to edge cloud federation according to GSMA. Additionally, the paper mentions the evolution of OpenNESS toward Intel® Smart Edge Open.

Intelligent Edge Meetup on August 27th presented by Srihari Mallavarapu. This session helped developers get an overview of Intel® technologies enabling edge computing. Srihari covered tools to develop intelligent edge platform on common off-the-shelf infrastructures that can run convergence of analytics and inference, media optimizations as well as a variety of networking workloads. Srihari is a Sr. Ecosystem Development Manager within the Network Platform Group at Intel.

Cloud Native Private 5G Deployment using OpenNESS and EMCO presented by Prabhjot Sethi, from Aarna Networks, demonstrated deployment of free5gc using Intel® Smart Edge Open and EMCO (Edge Multi-Cluster Orchestration).

Running Intel® Smart Edge Open with Azure IoT Hub presented by Purvi Thakkar. In this meetup, Purvi will focus on network edge cloud service provided by Microsoft through “Azure Edge Zones”.
